Why is Charting important & how can you help?

Visibility and Recognition: Charting on platforms such as Billboard, Spotify, Apple Music, and other music charts increases an artist's visibility and recognition within the music industry and among fans. Credibility and Prestige: Achieving chart success lends credibility and prestige to an artist's career. It demonstrates that their music is resonating with audiences and can attract new fans and opportunities. Financial Success: Charting can lead to increased revenue streams through higher music sales, streams, and concert ticket sales. It can also attract sponsorship deals and endorsements. Career Advancement: Chart success can open doors to bigger opportunities, including collaborations with other artists, invitations to perform at prestigious events, and nominations for awards.

How can you help?

  1. Streaming and Purchasing Music: Streaming and purchasing an artist's music on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and iTunes contribute to chart positions. Fans can stream or buy singles and albums, especially during release weeks, to boost chart performance. As well as purchasing the physical copy of the album.

  2. Sharing and Promoting: Fans can actively promote an artist's music on social media platforms, blogs, and music forums. Sharing links to songs, music videos, and upcoming releases can help increase visibility and attract new listeners.

  3. Attending Concerts and Events: Attending an artist's concerts, tours, and events not only supports them financially but also contributes to their overall popularity and success. Sold-out shows and positive reviews can generate buzz and momentum for an artist's career.

  4. Engagement and Interaction: Engaging with an artist on social media platforms by liking, commenting, and sharing their posts can help increase their online presence and reach. Building a strong fan base that actively interacts with and supports the artist can have a significant impact on their chart performance.

Overall, STAYs play a crucial role in helping Stray Kids achieve chart success by actively supporting and promoting their music across various platforms and channels.

BILLBOARD
Billboard is a record chart mainly in the United States and Japan that ranks the most popular music weekly based on either streams, sales, radio plays, or all three. Billboard also has global and other country charts. Billboard charting is objective evidence of an artist's audience. They have long been a who’s-who of all the biggest names in music.

GENERAL GUIDE
Longevity is Key
While the first week is the most crucial and with the strongest tracking, the following weeks are equally important. Entering the chart is one thing; staying long inside the chart is another.

• DO NOT LOOP PLAYLISTS; Pandora is the ONLY exception.
• DO NOT SHUFFLE PLAYLISTS.
• DO NOT USE VPN.

• Limit your purchase to 4 albums max per transaction.
• If buying more than 4, split the transaction. It's recommended to buy from other stores or use different accounts and cards/payment methods.
• Make sure the store you are ordering from counts on Billboard.
• Make sure the album is the USA version.
• Your album will count on Billboard upon shipment, not when ordered.
• Must be shipped to a USA or PR address.
Offline buying (Target, Walmart, etc.)
• Limit your purchase to 4 albums max per transaction.
• Please buy the album in-store to strengthen first-week sales.
• Cash-basis payment is recommended if doing multiple transactions.

ONLINE STORES
• Stray Kids Shop
• SubKShop
• Music Plaza
• Ktown4U - US VERSION ONLY
• Amazon - be careful and look to be sure it's being shipped and sold directly from Amazon and not a 3rd party or it won't count.

PHYSICAL STORES THAT ASLO HAVE ONLINE OPTIONS
• Barnes & Noble
• Target
• Walmart - when purchasing online from Walmart be careful and look to be sure it's being shipped and sold directly from Amazon and not a 3rd party or it won't count.

General guide:
Before making any purchase, make sure to read the guide first in order to make sure your purchases count.

• 1 physical album = 1 digital album = 10 digital tracks

If you can still buy a physical copy (max 4 per transaction) from your local record store such as Target, please do!

If buying on iTunes:
• Limit your buying to 1 copy/card per week.
• Buy the title track first, then buy/complete the album. If you can’t complete the album, buy as many individual tracks as you can.
• Do not gift the song directly using iTunes, as it does not count on Billboard.
• If using iTunes + Apple Music, “delete downloads” on Apple Music after buying so your streams count.
• Do not use VPN!
• If you have already purchased the album/songs before, you cannot repurchase them. What you can do is create another Apple ID and use the same card (that you have used in the past tracking period) again once that week.

If buying on other digital stores:
• Stray Kids Shop, Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon, 7digital
• Limit buying to 1 copy / account / platform PER EMAIL!
• Make sure to download the song/album until it says “0 (zero).”
• Your purchase will only count on Billboard once you have downloaded it.
• If you would like to buy more than 1, make sure to use another account with a different email if you can change payment methods.
• Recommended that you buy from different platforms.

Notes:
• SKZ Shop and iTunes are the most recommended platform.
• Unique purchases remove the risk of sales getting filtered out. It is highly recommended, especially if buying multiple copies, that you have your friends/family purchase on your behalf.
• As much as possible, make your identity unique every time. Do not use the same details/email/account, especially if buying multiple times on a single platform. It is recommended that you buy from different platforms.

CIRCLE CHART VS HANTEO CHART

Circle Chart and Hanteo Chart are both related to the music industry, specifically in the context of South Korea's K-pop music scene. They serve different purposes and provide different types of information.

  1. Circle Chart:

    • Purpose: The Circle Chart, also known as the Gaon Circle Chart, is a ranking system used to measure the popularity and sales performance of albums and songs in South Korea. It is managed by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) and is one of the most widely recognized music charts in the country.

    • Data Source: The Circle Chart compiles data from various sources, including physical album sales, digital downloads, and streaming numbers. It provides a comprehensive view of the overall popularity of music.

    • Usage: The Circle Chart is often used by music industry professionals, fans, and the media to track the success of K-pop artists and their releases. It is a valuable tool for gauging the commercial performance of music in the Korean market.

  2. Hanteo Chart:

    • Purpose: The Hanteo Chart is also a music chart that tracks album sales, but it focuses exclusively on the sales of physical albums in South Korea. It is operated by Hanteo Information System, a company that provides realtime sales data for albums.

    • Data Source: Hanteo Chart gathers data directly from various music retailers, including brick-and-mortar stores and online shops, which sell physical copies of albums. It provides a more granular view of album sales.

    • Usage: The Hanteo Chart is particularly important for K-pop artists and their fans as it offers realtime updates on how well an album is selling in the domestic market. Many K-pop fan communities use Hanteo data to support their favorite artists by purchasing albums from Hanteo-affiliated stores.

Key Differences:

  1. Scope:

    • The Circle Chart covers a broader range of music data, including physical and digital sales as well as streaming, providing a more comprehensive view of an artist's popularity.

    • The Hanteo Chart focuses exclusively on physical album sales and is primarily concerned with tracking the number of physical albums sold.

  2. Data Sources:

    • The Circle Chart compiles data from multiple sources, including music streaming platforms, digital download platforms, and physical retailers.

    • The Hanteo Chart gathers data directly from physical album sales through affiliated retailers.

  3. Audience:

    • The Circle Chart is used by a wider range of stakeholders, including industry professionals, fans, and the media, to gauge overall music popularity.

    • The Hanteo Chart is particularly important to K-pop fans and artists, as it directly reflects the sales of physical albums, which are often highly prized by fans.

In summary, while both Circle Chart and Hanteo Chart provide valuable information about the South Korean music industry, they differ in their scope and data sources. The Circle Chart offers a more comprehensive view of music popularity, including digital and streaming data, while the Hanteo Chart focuses solely on physical album sales.

Check out some information about each chart individually including a list of verified retailers for each below

Circle Chart

Circle Chart has several different charts, some of which are used for music show criteria and some of which are used for end-of-year award nominations. The public cannot see ALL the data on these charts; depending on the chart, we can only see the top 50, 100, or 200 and the correlating data based on ONLY the top artists, songs, or albums on that chart.

So when you see a monthly or weekly update about Stray Kids' album sales and it hasn't changed since the prior update, it does NOT mean there were no sales on a specific album; it just means there were not enough sales to place them in the list of albums that we can access. We have to wait for the monthly recap, and if sales weren't enough to be in the top, then we have to wait for the yearly recap to get an exact number.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT RETAILERS

Just because a site says they are a verified retailer does not mean your purchase will count! STAYs should always verify the retailers themselves, since some 3rd party retailers purchase their albums from verified stores, then resell them. In other words, when they purchased the album, it counted toward the chart, but it will not count when you purchase it from them!

We have compiled information from Circle Chart's website to help, but we strongly encourage STAYs to check for themselves if they believe our list is outdated or incorrect.

It provides up-to-date information on the number of physical albums sold by various K-pop artists and groups in the domestic South Korean market.

Here are some key points to understand about the Hanteo Chart:

  1. Purpose: The primary purpose of the Hanteo Chart is to track and quantify the sales of physical albums. It helps measure the popularity and commercial success of K-pop artists in terms of physical album sales in South Korea.

K-pop fans often engage in "group orders" or bulk purchases to support their favorite artists and help them achieve high positions on the Hanteo Chart. Success on this chart is seen as a significant milestone for K-pop acts.

  6. Global Impact: While the Hanteo Chart primarily focuses on South Korean sales, it also has a global influence. Many international fans of K-pop artists participate in group orders or purchase albums from retailers that report to Hanteo to contribute to their favorite artists' rankings.

In summary, the Hanteo Chart is a music sales tracking system that plays a vital role in the K-pop industry by providing real-time data on the sales of physical albums in South Korea. It is an important tool for fans and artists to measure and celebrate the success of their music releases in the domestic market.
